The Viking long ship was a very seaworthy vessel that was either sailed using a square rig or rowed with 16 oars on each side. The Vikings were superb sailors and navigated by the sun and stars when far from the coast. It was customary to bury wealthy people with their worldly goods in one of these long ships.
